It was December 2019, a cold and damp night, but as ever, the beagle needed to be entertained!

We have been walking Obi off lead since we were able to let him loose at 16 weeks. He loves it, and because of his breed, it is essential for his well-being to allow him to have a good run around and a decent sniff. At the time we were using a small collar light from a well known pet superstore. It had cost around £5 and was a small red, battery powered light.

That night Obi decided to unleash his inner Houdini in an attempt to sniff out a fox, or deer, cat, pigeon, anything that smells really. But he was off lead, and it soon became clear that we weren't going to find him via the red light, it couldn't be seen anywhere.

After a nerve wracking 10 minutes, Obi reappeared, as ever totally non-the-wiser about the commotion he had caused. It was then that we started talking about the need to get a tracker (thanks Tractive next day delivery for resolving that issue...) and a better light.

As it happens we were also in the midst of a pyramid build for our sons school project about Egypt. We had purchased a beanie hat with a removable USB chargeable 4 light LED to illuminate the inside of the pyramid, and had a spare. Marcus had a brain wave and quickly fashioned a light to attach to Obi's harness. We tested it that night and could see him from across the field as clear as day.

And it was there, in that cold field, that the seed was planted and IlluminObi was born.
